Overall Trend
  • In 2014, there were 24 new cases of oral cancer among Chatham-Kent residents.
  • The incidence rate was 19.1 (11.4, 26.8) per 100,000 which was not significantly different than the rate of 14.6 (13.9, 15.2) per 100,000 for Ontario.
  • Over time, incidence rates for Chatham-Kent have been relatively stable and comparable to provincial rates.

By Age Group
  • Ontarians 80 years and older experienced significantly higher incidence rates compared to other age groups. A similar trend was observed for Chatham-Kent, however the difference between age groups was not significant.
By Sex
  • Ontario males experienced significantly higher incidence rates than Ontario females. A similar trend was observed for Chatham-Kent, however the difference between sexes was not significant.

Mortality

Overall Trend
  • In 2015 there were 12 deaths due to oral cancer among Chatham-Kent residents.
  • The mortality rate was 8.9 (3.5, 14.0) per 100,000 which was significantly higher than the rate of 3.7 (3.4, 4.0) per 100,000 for Ontario.
  • Over time, rates for the province have remained stable while rates for Chatham-Kent have fluctuated, showing an increasing trend in most recent years.
